What is a viscose rug and how to care for it?

One of the materials that can be used in weaving carpets is viscose - what is this fabric and what properties does it have? What are the characteristics of viscose rugs and is it worth having them in your home? We dispel any doubts in this article.

Viscose rug - what material is it?

What is viscose? This fabric belongs to synthetic materials and its origin is plant. It is made of wood cellulose (mainly from coniferous trees), which is treated with chemicals. During the process, a chemical reaction takes place, and after passing the material through small holes, thin fibers are formed.

Is it worth betting on a viscose rug? Viscose and its properties

Viscose is a material that is very often used in the textile industry, e.g. in the production of carpets, clothing, bedding, towels and other textile products. Viscose is soft and has a silky texture. It is also called "artificial silk". That is why it has many supporters who appreciate its visual qualities. The viscose rug, just like real silk, is shiny, fluffy and soft. These features make viscose rugs enhance the cosiness of the interior, add style and a touch of luxury.

Properties of viscose rugs

Here, a lot depends on whether the carpet is made of 100% viscose or whether this material is an addition to, for example, wool. In the case of carpets made only of viscose, it should be borne in mind that viscose does not tolerate contact with moisture well. At the point of contact with water or other liquid, a trace is left, which, depending on the type of liquid, will be more or less visible. 100% viscose rugs are also very delicateTherefore, they are not the best choice for furniture - marks left on the carpet, e.g. by the legs of an armchair or a chest of drawers, will never disappear.

Rugs with the addition of viscose

It is worth paying attention to wool rugs with an admixture of viscose. With a predominant share of wool, the carpet will remain durable and resistant to wrinkles, which is a typical feature of wool carpets. At the same time, the admixture of viscose makes the carpet softer, more delicate to the touch and more shiny.

Viscose carpets - how to take care of their condition?

How to clean a viscose rug? The basis, of course, is regular vacuuming, which allows you to remove dust and dirt from the surface of the carpet. If stains appear, they must be removed immediately to avoid permanent staining or damage to the fibres.

How to wash a viscose rug without the risk of damage? It is a good idea to dry clean using special, gentle carpet detergents. Cleaning a viscose carpet can be problematic because this material does not like water, and traces resulting from contact with liquids can remain permanently visible. Therefore, if you need a comprehensive cleaning of viscose carpets, we recommend taking them to specialistswho have the appropriate know-how and resources for effective and safe cleaning of viscose carpets.

In which room is a viscose rug suitable?

As we have already mentioned, viscose rugs are delicate and do not tolerate contact with water, and cleaning them can be difficult. Therefore, it is worth placing them in rooms where the risk of dirt or excess moisture is relatively small. The bedroom is ideal for thisWhat's more, the softness and velvety of viscose rugs perfectly match the character and purpose of this room, after all, it is the bedroom that is the room where we care about cosiness the most.

Is a viscose rug for me?

Of course, carpets made of natural materials, especially wool carpets, bring the most luxury to the interior. In some styles of interior design, e.g. boho or Scandinavian style, only natural accessories are desirable, so viscose rugs will not be the best solution.

Nevertheless, viscose rugs can be a great alternative to silk rugs. Although viscose rugs are more expensive, they are still cheaper than silk rugs. Therefore, they are willingly chosen by people who appreciate the properties of silk, i.e. its softness and velvety, but are looking for slightly less expensive options.
