Machine washable carpets - what should you pay attention to?

You often ask us about carpets that will work well in rooms where they are exposed to heavy soiling and you will be able to wash them yourself in the washing machine. Here's what to look for when choosing machine washable carpet.

Features of machine washable rugs:

  • the rug must be made of raw materials that will not be damaged during washing
  • the carpet should be soft and flexible enough to fit in the washing machine drum
  • the rug should be made of a material that dries fairly quickly so that the rug does not have time to air before it dries - even if you dry it in winter, at home
  • the yarn from which it is made should respond well to complete wetting and temperature changes - also when drying the carpet.

Which fabric is best for machine washing?

By far your best choice will be here cotton carpets, made of 100% cotton. We advise products without any other material admixtures, because only a pure cotton composition guarantees the softness of the product and will allow the carpet to be rolled up into a ball of the right size that will fit in the washing machine drum.

Can I use stain removers when washing cotton carpets?

As well as your favorite good-quality cotton t-shirts, too cotton carpets can withstand machine washing well. They can even be washed thoroughly with stain removers. Before you treat a large stain with specialist products, however, do a test on a small part of the carpet to make sure that the stain remover does not react with the carpet dye and does not discolor.

What about carpet ironing?

Ironing the rug after washing is not necessary if you stretch the rug well, i.e. lay it flat while drying. If for some reason this is not possible, you don't have to worry! Cotton carpets can be ironed as long as they do not have an integrated silicone or rubber base which may have a tendency to dissolve when exposed to high temperatures. The higher the quality of the carpet, the better it will be able to handle not only washing, but also drying and ironing.

The impact of the quality of the carpet on the usability

The quality of the rug is of great importance in the process of its daily use. As with clothes, rugs can also be made of inferior or better cotton.
The use of high-quality cotton yarn guarantees a much longer durability of the product - even if you decide to regularly wash the carpet in the washing machine! So how to distinguish a good quality cotton rug from the one that does not meet high standards?

Well, we won't discover anything by saying that the price is important here, but also the brand behind the product. In chain stores you can find relatively cheap, "no-name" carpets made in China. We leave the assessment of their quality to you.
We - with a clear conscience recommend rugs and cotton carpets of the Danish brand RugSolidwhich you will find in the CARPETS & MORE offer. Why these ones? Because they are beautifully made and come in twenty colors! And once you decide on a specific color, you can still choose from several available sizes!
