One of the basic and most important methods of cleaning is vacuuming, which allows you to remove typical contaminants from the surface. Remember that it is also important to shake the carpets regularly, because it helps to get rid of dirt particles hidden in the deeper parts of the fleece, and also makes the fibers shinier. How to properly shake the rug? Does the patent for carpet shaking in snow really work? What how long should you whisk the carpet? Get the answers!

Does carpet beating really make sense?

It would seem that shaking a carpet on a neighborhood or home beater is nowadays only a relic of the past, associated mainly with the times of the Polish People's Republic. Due to the widespread availability of multifunctional household appliances, many people give up this activity, considering that it is enough to remove contamination with a standard vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile, beating carpets in the open air really has many advantages. This activity helps to cleanse thoroughly carpet from dust, sand and other dirt that an ordinary vacuum cleaner cannot handle. What's more, frequent treading of the carpet extends its life and helps to keep the fleece in great condition for longer. This method of cleaning carpets is very simple and everyone can handle it.

How to properly shake carpets so as not to damage them?

A simple hand tool called a whisk is used to whisk the carpet. We can use one purchased in a store or made of wicker. We hit the carpet with it, thus setting both the material and the dust in the bristles in motion. As the carpet forms a uniform body, it returns to its original position after the force is released, and the precipitated dust tears away from the material due to inertia and falls lower. While beating the carpet with the whisk, we move in a constant direction, e.g. from left to right, patting the material again and again and gradually descending from top to bottom. Finally, we can brush the rug with a special brush dedicated to the fleece material to get rid of any hair and hair (this does not apply to all rugs). If we have a carpet beater, use it. First, we hang it carpet with the left side facing out. When there is no more dust in the air, it means that we have managed to remove dust and impurities accumulated in the underside, as well as in the deeper layers of the fleece. Then we can turn the rug over and then shake it out in the same way. It is a good idea to leave the shattered carpet outside for a while, so that it is ventilated thoroughly. This will help get rid of all absorbed odors and make the carpet bristles softer and more pleasant to the touch.

Carpet beating methods: on a beater and more

Nowadays, it is not always possible to use a typical carpet beater. However, we can do it in a different way, for example by hanging the carpet simply on a railing or even a tree branch. What if there is a problem with that too? Manufacturers of household appliances constantly make our lives easier: in most large stores in the electronics / household appliances industry, we can buy vacuum cleaners equipped with a flap attachment, thanks to which vacuuming is much easier. In stores, there are also special vacuum cleaners for shaking carpets and carpets, ensuring very high efficiency in removing all contaminants.

How often should we brush the carpets?

There is no set rule as to how often you need to shake the rug. If possible, it is worth doing it at least once a quarter, preferably once a month. We will then be sure that it is free from dust and dirt. Remember that carpets can be beaten all year round: performing this treatment in winter is as safe as in summer. Carpets should not be shaken only when the weather outside the window, and above all when it is raining. A wet carpet, especially one made of natural bristles, dries very long, which promotes the growth of mold and fungi.

Carpet beating in winter: a simple home trick!

A frosty, preferably snowy day is the perfect time to take our carpets outside and shake them out properly. Using fresh snow, you can quickly and effectively clean the material of dirt and dust. If it's freezing outside, the bristles will tighten and lift slightly, making it easier to remove debris. How to whisk the rug in the snow? It is enough to put it on the top layer (fleece) for snow, and then shake it with a whisk. By hitting the bottom of the carpet, we make the layer of dirt and dust accumulated on its surface absorbed by the snow. Does brushing the carpet in the snow really work? Yes, and in addition it gives very good results even in the case of heavy and massive wool carpets. Not only that: if we leave our carpet in the cold for a few hours, we can also effectively get rid of unwanted "tenants" living in carpets, blankets, sofas, mattresses and all other nooks and crannies where dust collects, e.g. mites and moths. Unfortunately, neither one nor the other are pests that can be easily exterminated, so in order not to spread even more, it is good to use tried and tested methods. Airing carpets in the cold is a simple, home-made way that our grandmothers already knew. Thanks to this trivial trick, you will get rid of harmful parasites (both adults and eggs and larvae). We can do the same with the bedding under which we sleep: these little creatures do not like heat or frost, so by exposing quilts and pillows to the fresh air, we can prevent further damage to our textiles. A good idea can also be a few hours of airing clothes and children's toys in the cold.
