How to remove plasticine from a carpet? Practical advice

The carpet is one of the most important pieces of equipment in our houses and apartments. All types of sidewalks and sidewalks not only add coziness to the interior, but also effectively protect the floor against scratches and damage. Small or large, round or rectangular, colored or single-color - no matter what model we choose, a properly selected rug will certainly add prestige to the space and emphasize its character. Unfortunately, due to their destination, carpets are often exposed to various types of dirt. As with other home textiles, some of them can be very troublesome. A perfect example is plasticine glued to the material. This problem is very well known to families with young children. How to effectively remove pieces of plasticine stuck to the carpet so as not to damage the fabric? Here are a few simple tricks for keeping your home pavement impeccably clean.

Plasticine stains - how to get rid of them?

Plasticine is one of the favorite games of children. This is a timeless classic and material that has been with us for at least several generations. We, our parents and grandparents played with it. Plasticine, modeling clay, play-dough - kids even love a stretchy plastic mass that can be used to make people, animals and other strange creatures. Plasticine is a soft plastic mass used for spatial modeling. Under the influence of heat, the material becomes flexible and can be formed into any shape. There is no doubt that popular modeling clay is great for creative play. Unfortunately, when using it, it is difficult to avoid all kinds of stains and dirt. While washing the colored mass from the hands is usually not difficult (it is enough to wash your hands with warm water and soap), removing pieces of dough from home textiles and other unwanted places is often a real ordeal. Plasticine that has stuck to children's clothes can be washed off with the right temperature: you either put your blouse or shorts in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer overnight, and then crumble the mass from the clothes with a blunt tool, or press the clothes through the wrapping paper (it will absorb grease, and wash the remains of the stain with a soft cloth moistened with pure alcohol). What to do when plasticine sticks to the pile of the carpet? And there are ways for that.

Plasticine on the carpet - do not brush it off!

Have you noticed that ugly plasticine stains have appeared on the surface of the rug? You should get down to business as soon as possible. To clean your favorite pavement, however, do not immediately grab the brush - scrubbing the fleece with force could spread the sticky substance over a larger surface. So the effect would be exactly the opposite of what you expected, and you would only do your own work. So what should you do? How to remove plasticine from the carpet with home methods?

How to clean plasticine from a carpet - the most effective methods

Plasticine trampled into the carpet is a real nuisance for parents. Fortunately, when it is necessary to get rid of sidewalks and carpets, proven methods already known to our grandmothers come to the rescue. Although it may seem that removing plasticine crushed on the carpet requires very complicated methods, cleaning it is actually easier than you might think. Greasy stains on the carpet are not the reason why the pavement can only be thrown away! So how should you proceed in such a situation? The secret here lies in the properties of the plasticine itself. This mass consists of petroleum jelly mixed with calcium carbonate and fatty acids. When heated, the material melts and becomes brittle at low temperatures. Knowing the characteristics typical of plasticine, when you want to remove it from the carpet, you just need to expose it to the right temperature.

How to clean plasticine from a carpet: the "cold" method

To get rid of plasticine pieces from a carpet or rug, take a few ice cubes from the freezer and place them in a clean plastic bag. Then put the bag filled with ice on the carpet and wait a few minutes. When you notice that the mass has stopped sticking, gently remove the crumbling pieces from the pavement with a knife or an unnecessary plastic card. If the particles are too small to pick up with your hands, you can use a vacuum cleaner. However, remember to empty the container immediately after vacuuming - otherwise the modeling clay may melt again and clog the filter. There are also special freezers available for sale that are applied directly to the stain.

How to remove plasticine from a carpet: the "hot" method

Another method of getting rid of plasticine stains is to use the opposite effect, i.e. heating. The first step you should take is to remove the bits of mass manually (as much as possible, of course). Then place a paper napkin on the carpet and iron it with little power. An alternative could be to use a warm air stream from a hair dryer. After heating, the remnants of plasticine will stick to the paper. To complete the procedure, wipe the pavement with a damp cloth. Important: with this method, owners of synthetic carpets must be especially careful - too high temperature could melt the fibers.

So, before using any of the proposed methods of removing plasticine, check what material your carpet is woven from. If you don't know - it's best to have it cleaned in the hands of a specialist.
