Carpets - classic, modern or shaggy - are the perfect solution if we need an effective and practical decoration. They have been used in interior design for centuries. In the past, they were used mainly for utility reasons, as floor protection and room insulation; today it is an unrivaled decoration that gives the interior coziness and pleasant character. Variety of shapes i colors, interesting design and the combination of functional and aesthetic values ​​make this decorative trend return today in a great style. One of the biggest nuisances for the owners of all kinds of carpets, however, are the deformations appearing on them. Even small changes in the structure of the fleece can negatively affect its appearance. How to straighten a rug and get it back into shape? Here are some smart ways to prevent distortion on your carpet.

Carpet deformations - why do they arise?

Carpets are universal floor coverings. They can be used universally: they fit not only hall or bedroombut also to bathrooms i children's room. Carpet manufacturers offer modern colors and patterns that will delight everyone. Store shelves are full of various models. High-end carpets do not necessarily have to be expensive - many are available at attractive prices to suit all budgets. Carpets undoubtedly have many advantages, but they also have their weaknesses. The disadvantages of carpets undoubtedly include their tendency to various kinds of deformation. A wavy or bent rug can be the real bane of its user. Deformations mainly happen on old models. One of the reasons for the formation of creases on this group of materials is the furniture standing on them. Most of us do not make frequent changes to furniture and put furniture in the same places for many years. After moving the table or chest of drawers on the carpet, you can see prints and dents resulting from the long-term pressure of heavy objects. This is a very common defect that does not look good. On the other hand, the folding corners of the carpet may be the result of a rolled-up carpet that is left unused. Surely, when you bring an old carpet from the attic and unfold it on the floor, you will notice folds and creases on its surface. A very similar situation can happen to you after unfolding a new copy that was folded during transport. The rolled-up corners of a new carpet are not necessarily a problem - often you just need to unroll the fabric and wait a while for the carpet to straighten itself. Occasionally, however, the rug still has an ugly wrinkle even after waiting. In this case, go to action. Straightening deformations on a carpet or sidewalk is not as difficult as it may seem. So what should be done?

How to straighten a wrinkled rug?

In order to avoid the problem of folded or folded carpets, many people completely give up having them at home. In the meantime, it is enough to learn a few proven tricks for straightening the carpet. We will start with a method that is quick and accessible to everyone. What will you need? Double-sided adhesive tape (available from DIY or home improvement stores) and scissors. The first way to make a pleated rug is to simply hold the protruding parts of the rug with your hand and tap them from the underside to the floor with tape. Admit it is very easy!

How to straighten a rug: the best ways to get a wrinkled rug

How to straighten the corners of a carpet that we keep stumbling over? The easiest way is to roll it to the other side and wait a few days. You should remember not to leave it for more than 48 hours. Another method of restoring the shape of the carpet is to place some heavy object or furniture on the wrinkled carpet. Ice cubes are also an effective way to remove creases from a woolen rug. Just place the ice on the crease and wait for it to melt. With the water, the fibers will expand, so we can shape them more easily with our fingers or a dry cloth.

Wavy rug after washing - how to straighten it?

One of the ways to keep carpets impeccably clean is regular wet cleaning. This activity allows you to get rid of impurities and dirt accumulated in the deeper parts of the fibers. Taking care of the freshness of home textiles, we also remove potentially dangerous microorganisms, especially bacteria, viruses and mites. Carpet owners know very well that wrinkling after washing is a common problem. Straightening it, however, is usually very simple and not difficult. The easiest way to create a rug after washing is simply to wait for the rug to stretch out well. When drying a carpet after wet cleaning, you will need a large, flat surface - remember that hanging on a beater can only harm it! And how to straighten a pleated rug in the open air? If we have a large surface covered with paving stones or concrete in front of the house, we can allow ourselves to dry the pavement in the sun.

A proven solution for a corrugated rug: the action of heat

You can also use an iron to straighten the creases. Use an iron with a steam generator for this. It is enough to apply steam over an unwanted defect a few times and wait for a while. How to straighten a carpet with an iron so as not to damage the fleece? Make sure that the device does not touch the fleece of the carpet, otherwise the fibers could burn and lead to irreparable damage. You can also put a soft cloth in the place of the dent and gently iron it, making sure that the temperature on the knob is not too high. An effective way to make a pleated rug is also to heat the back side of the rug with a hair dryer. To straighten a folded carpet, we use a medium-power dryer and keep a distance of about 15 cm from the material. To fix the effect, brush the bristles upwards at the end.

How to straighten a new carpet?

Old rugs are not the only ones prone to the formation of all kinds of creases and folds. This problem also applies to new ones. Sometimes, after unfolding the carpet delivered to our home, it turns out that the exact roll-up of it during transport has caused the line to bend. Whether a given item will be susceptible to deformation largely depends on the quality of the raw materials used to make it. Various materials are used in the production of carpets, so it is worth getting acquainted with their characteristics before buying a given model. How to straighten a wrinkled carpet to protect it from such defects in the future? Let's start with the simplest activity, i.e. rolling the carpet in the opposite direction than before. Another way is to lay the rug on the floor and let it settle for a few days. As already mentioned, we keep a new rug in this position for up to two days. If the fibers do not return to their original state flexibly during this time, additional measures will have to be taken: hold the corners with furniture, fold the edges to the other side, heat the carpet, etc. If you want, you can also subject the carpet to professional steam cleaning - this method is not only allows you to thoroughly clean the fleece, but also reduces any deformations.

How to avoid buying a wrinkled rug?

The best solution is to buy a high-quality natural carpet, for example made in 100% wool. Such a rug will be heavy and will stick nicely to the floor.
Remember! The denser woven carpet - the heavier and the better quality! The lower the fleece, the less it will tend to deform.
