What materials are carpets made of?

Carpets are one of the most frequently and willingly chosen accessories for home rooms. Their huge popularity results from many features appreciated by users. This wonderful floor decoration has not only aesthetic values, but also numerous practical and utility attributes. The quality and properties of a pavement largely depend on the material from which it is made. Today both carpets are produced made of natural fibersand plastics.

Cotton carpets

One of the most popular raw materials used in the production of carpets is cotton. This plant has been used in the clothing and textile industries for many years. Cotton carpets are light and thin, so they are perfect for interiors dominated by simple forms. Cotton rugs do not overwhelm the arrangement, making the interior more pleasant and cozy. Such carpets harmoniously harmonize especially with rooms decorated in the Scandinavian style. They fit into the bedroom, living room, children's room and even the bathroom. Cotton carpets have antistatic properties (i.e. they do not pick up static) and do not lose their colors. The advantage of such carpets is also an attractive design and interesting colors.

Silk carpets

Another natural raw material used in the production of carpets is silk. It is an animal-derived fiber obtained from the cocoon of the mulberry silkworm or the oak silkworm. A silk rug is considered a luxury product. Fabrics made of this raw material are characterized by softness and lightness, high gloss and smoothness. Silk rugs are pleasant to the touch and extremely elegant. They keep feet warm in winter, and provide a pleasant cooling sensation in summer. The rugs made of silk can be recognized by their exclusive shine. Such rugs look beautiful in oriental-style rooms, to which they bring an exotic and somewhat mysterious atmosphere. They will also work well in traditional and minimalist interiors.

Viscose carpets

Viscose rugs they look like silk. They are extremely smooth, soft to the touch and shine beautifully. Viscose is a material made of artificial fibers, although its production uses a natural raw material - cellulose obtained from various types of trees. Viscose carpets have a very diverse range of colors and patterns. Their great advantage is that they can have both very vivid colors and more subdued, subtle colors. The pile of these pavements is usually short, often not more than 1 cm. Viscose carpets are not the easiest to clean, so they work best in rooms with low use.

Polypropylene carpets

Polypropylene is, next to polyethylene, one of the most commonly used in the plastics industry. It is an organic chemical compound characterized by high chemical resistance and non-toxic to humans. An important feature of a material in the context of textiles made of it is also physiological indifference - polypropylene does not absorb water. Polypropylene carpets are springy and pleasant to the touch. What distinguishes them is high durability and resistance to mechanical damage (tearing, dents, abrasions, etc.). The polypropylene walkways should be the main focus of allergy sufferers: their fibers have antistatic properties, thanks to which the material does not attract dust and moisture.

Polyester carpets

Another synthetic material used in the production of rugs and carpets is polyester. Polyester fibers are very tear-resistant, have high elasticity and do not absorb water. This fabric is very easy to clean, so it is perfect for a carpet. Polyester is an ideal material for the production of high-quality synthetic rugs. Polyester rugs look great in any interior at home; they are also an elegant addition to office spaces. Similarly to polypropylene fabrics, also rugs made of polyester are perfect for people allergic to dust, mites or fungi. They are characterized by above-average durability and high resistance to deformation.

Polyamide carpets

Polyamide is a synthetic fiber that is used in a variety of industrial sectors. The material was developed in the 30s and marketed under the trade name: nylon. Polyamide carpets are available in a wide range of colors and patterns. So we can easily find a copy that will fit into the leitmotif of a given interior, regardless of its arrangement. The most important advantages of polyamide carpets are high resistance to mechanical damage, creasing, abrasion and stretching. Typically, a polyamide rug absorbs moisture from the environment to a small extent, so it does not create an environment conducive to the development of mites, fungi and molds. Like other synthetic carpets, polyamide flooring does not attract moles. As polyamide can react with chemicals, textiles made of this material are quite difficult to clean. Only dedicated agents should be used to keep polyamide carpets clean.
